Students from Polytechnic Win International Competition
Top award goes to a project developing new catalysts for ammonia synthesis/decompositio
Polina Martynova and Vladislav Largin from the Faculty of Chemical Technology successfully defended a joint Chinese–Russian–British student project on developing new catalysts for ammonia synthesis and decomposition, winning the gold medal at the International Innovation Competition for students of Chinese colleges. The defense took place in China at Zhengzhou University.
Polina Martynova served as the leader of the entire international research team. Vladislav Largin is responsible for theoretical modeling of the catalysts. Chinese students from Northwest Polytechnic University (Xi’an) will carry out synthesis and experimental testing of the catalytic properties of the new materials. Students from Queen Mary University of London will handle internal and external communications and marketing. Thus, the team was formed with a clear division of responsibilities and with members who have complementary professional skills, which made the project even more competitive.
The project will be implemented as part of scientific and technical cooperation between Samara Polytechnic and Northwest Polytechnic University.
“We congratulate our young colleagues. They are making successful first steps in science, and at the highest international level. Defending a project at one of the most prestigious student scientific competitions in China under intense competition speaks to the high level of our students’ preparation. Now it’s time to implement the project. Our collaboration with colleagues from Northwest Polytechnic University continues, and a large student team has now joined it. I am sure this will not be our students’ last visit to China. I hope other students will join the project as well,” commented Vladislav Blatov, Head of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry and Director of the International Research Center for Theoretical Materials Science at the Polytechnic.
