THE YEAR IN REVIEW

On the eve of the New Year, let's look back at what made the headlines at Samara Polytech in 2025.

In January our university passed professional and public accreditation. Rector Dmitry Bykov and Rector Milan Kulic of the University of East Sarajevo, one of the leading universities of the Republika Srpska, signed a cooperation agreement. At the request of Russian Railways, specialists from the Institute of Automation and Information Technology developed a monitoring system for the condition of culverts on railway lines. Our scientists — Sergey Yaresko, Vladimir Kozlovsky, Andrey Vasiliev, Vladislav Blatov, Elena Ivleva, and Vladimir Morov — received regional grants in science and engineering based on the results of 2024.

In February an exhibit from the Polytechnic museum — a binary-sign analogue-stochastic converter — was granted the status of a monument of science and technology of Russia. Staff of the Department of Theoretical and General Electrical Engineering — Vladimir Kozlovsky, Pavel Nikolaev, Alexander Saksonov, Alexander Podgorny, and Oleg Ibragimov — were awarded the title “Engineer of the Year.” Our university was named one of the winners of the regional stage of the national public relations development award “Silver Archer.” Students Arseny Fedorov, Daniil Kudryavtsev, Evgeny Kayzerov, Nikita Belyakov, and Konstantin Kuznetsov won the first tournament of the Scientific and Production Center for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) “Samara.”

In March our young scientists became winners of competitions held by the Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation: scholarship recipients Lyubov Osyanina and Kristine Ascatryan, and grant winner Elizaveta Morhova. A team of chemists led by Artem Kabanov received a grant from the Russian Science Foundation. For the fifth consecutive year the university was among the winners of the “EcoBalance” project.

In April Dmitry Demoretsky was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of the Russian Defense-Industrial Complex.” Our chemists won three Russian Science Foundation grants: two projects are carried out by the Department of Organic Chemistry, and one by the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry. Our university team won the regional stage of the IX All-Russian Student Esports League.

May was successful for our basketball players: the men’s and women’s Polytechnic teams won the Federation Cup of the Samara Region among student teams. Postgraduate students Dmitry Bragin and Sofya Zinina won a competition to receive Presidential scholarships. Professor Vladislav Blatov was awarded a provincial science and technology prize in Shaanxi (China). The university celebrated the 25th anniversary of its chapel of the holy martyr Tatiana — the first university chapel in the Samara region.

In June Dmitry Bykov was awarded the Order of Honour. Our university won the regional university games (universiada) for the 24th consecutive time. The Best Graduate of our university was recognized as Evgeny Kayzerov from the Institute of Automation and Information Technology. Professor Andrey Vasiliev won the title of “Eco-Leader” in the “Profi” category. Student Maria Zvada won the Russian checkers (draughts) cup. The Institute of Oil and Gas Technologies team took silver at the CASE-IN International Engineering Championship in the “Biotechnology” track. Elizaveta Morhova received the Chinese Ambassador’s Award. Master’s student Konstantin Pleshakov became a laureate of the All-Russian Engineering Competition. The Polytechnic was included in the TOP-15 universities participating in the “Startup as a Diploma” contest.

In July new vocational education programs received accreditation at the university in the following training areas: 35.02.12 “Garden and Park Landscaping” and 08.02.13 “Installation and Operation of Internal Plumbing, Air Conditioning and Ventilation Systems.” It was also announced that the Polytechnic will, for the first time, begin training physics teachers and instructors of Russian as a foreign language. Three research teams led by Irina Semenova, Andrey Popov, and Elizaveta Morhova received Russian Science Foundation grants. Student Anna Kukushkina set a Russian record in roller sport.

In August Associate Professor Vladislav Litvinov joined the International Committee on Artificial Intelligence. Students Maria Manko and Alisa Beltsova won first place in the “Best Environmental Design” category of the educational project “My River.” The team from the Institute of Automation and Information Technology won awards at the international forum “Unmanned Systems: Technologies of the Future.” Our athletes again stood out: Vladimir Balaev won the Russian wakeboarding championship (electric tow), and Anna Kukushkina won three medals at the Lishui International Inline Freestyle Open 2025 in China.

In September the university opened a youth laboratory “Thermal Processes in Chemical Technology.” Young scientists Marianna Voronina and Vasily Tkachev won the “Golden Names of Higher Education” competition. Five Polytechnic scientific journals were included in the state “White List.” Twenty-three researchers from our university were among the winners of the VI cycle of the “Student Startup” competition. The month brought sporting successes: Vladimir Balaev won the Russian Wakeboarding Cup, the chess team of the DNA faculty won 18 medals at the Samara Region championship, and our wrestlers became champions of the Superfinal of the National Student Wrestling League.

The main event in October was the opening of the renovated training center “SamGTU — Elektroschit Samara.” Student Olga Torpishcheva won the Polytechnic Science Slam. Two student projects led by Alexandra Maltseva and Alexander Nechaev won the Student Innovation Initiatives contest. Postgraduate student Yana Russkikh was named among the winners of the “Scientific Universe” competition. Polytechnic acceleration programs received grants from the Samara Region Fund for Support of Technological Entrepreneurship.

November was marked by our researchers’ victories in the “UMNIK” competition of the Foundation for Assistance to Innovations. Our university successfully completed state accreditation and licensing procedures. Polytech students were laureates of the regional competition “Young Scientist.” The Institute of Continuing Education won six grants for training participants of construction brigades. Professor Dmitry Panyukov, as part of an inter-university scientific group, was awarded the Sergey Mosin Prize named after the engineer-designer. Dmitry Bykov and Rector Wang Shengben of Tangshan University (China) signed an agreement to create a Center for Russian Language and Culture. The university’s KVN teams played for the Rector’s Cup of SamGTU for the second time.

Finally, in December five chemistry research teams led by Alexander Reznikov, Maria Ashatkina, Marina Leonova, Inna Medrish, and Dmitry Osipov won Russian Science Foundation grants. Together with industry partners, the Polytechnic implements educational projects for schoolchildren: customs classes, an engineering-technical class, and a specialized “T Plus” class have been opened with our participation. Student Anna Kukushkina became world champion in roller sport. Postgraduate student Alsu Yakubova won the ODK scholarship competition. The Polytechnic PR team received the VOLGA BRAND award. Polytech students showed success in sports programming: they won the Governor’s Cup and the Samara Region Cup in competitive programming.
