Samara Polytech Scientists Created “Smart” Farming

AI system is designed to ease farmers’ labour and watch over the crop. Samara Polytech Scientist along with Technical Companies have created the first AI system for agricultural purposes.

“Smart Farming” designed by the group of scientists is a digital data base containing information about various crop species and farming control services. This polyfunctional system analyses soil agrochemical characteristics, shows farming filed frontiers and 3D surface topography. However, its most significant ability is to offer solutions on taking care of crops according to their features.

“AI monitors the plants growing via satellites and drones detecting possible problems and allocates resources available including equipment, fertilizers and pesticides, calculates economic indicators” explains project executive, doctor of Technical Science, Head of Electronic Systems and Information Security Department, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Research and Production Company “Smart Solutions”, Petr Skobelev. “Now we are working on Cyber-Physic Growth Control System for precise farming capable of dispensing fertilizers and keeping the plants secure.”

Originally the system was designed for wheat growing, but presently the scientists are planning to modify the system and expand the range of agricultural species it can deal with. National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), one of the largest Universities in South-East Asia, have expressed their interest in the product. Meanwhile the possibility of using “Smart Farming” in China, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka is being discussed.
